Backyard Beauty

If your looking for inspiration - most of the time you really don't have to go too far! You can go right in your own backyard to find inspiration! This inspiration you can use in your art or just to lift you up!

Sometimes we don't have time with work, family, obligations and all the other life stuff to travel or go to a 'beautiful place.'

So why not just look around your house, your yard, your bedroom, at the park by your house... look around at your beautiful life. I know it's there!

When we take the time to notice the beautiful things
that are right around us...
it only attracts more beautiful things!

DIY - Fairy Garden

This Weekend I made a Fairy Garden with my mom... Super Easy and Cute - thought I would share some of the pics with you! Although I do not have pictures of the step by step process it's pretty easy to explain and understand.

GATHER ALL THE MATERIALS

You will need:
1. A container for the garden - a clear glass dish (Deep enough for soil and wide enough to hold a few small plants) 8+ inches I think would be good - think shallow and wide), Glass terrarium thingy, Glass bowl, garden pot - ANYTHING/or space to put the soil. Recycled items would be cool too - an old wood soda box - be creative!

3. Plants - At most garden centers you can buy mini plants. Mini are best because you want the garden to look small (somewhere the fairies would live!) You will want moss (you can buy this at craft stores or garden centers as well) Or you can go find moss out in nature too! Succulents are a  great plant to put in these - these can even be bought in the plant section at Home Depot/Walmart/Lowe's! I even discovered AIR plants - the crazy underwater looking one in my fairy garden - is an air plant - THEY DON'T NEED DIRT! He is so FREAKIN cool (kind of spendy ($6 for the tiny little guy) but so much fun!)

4. Rocks - any sizes you like! Sand or gravel too - again I found my rocks in nature on the beach!

5. Fairy Accessories! And really this means anything - maybe it's a mini animal garden...
maybe it's just a zen garden with plants rocks and sand! Think outside the box here!  

CREATE IT
1. Lay the dirt down - Fill almost to the top - leave an inch so the plants kind of look tucked in!

2. Dig mini holes and plant the mini plants/succulents!

3. Lay down moss if you want!

4. Make paths out of the rocks - or lay down sand/gravel.

5. Add Fairy Accessories!

Paint Party Friday - Harvesting Edition!

In the spirit of gardening, canning and the harvesting of everything that's been growing this summer... I painted little mini canvases which would be a nice bright edition to any kitchen! I made some homemade labels this week for a friend who's making honey! I've also got another label going for my mom's salsa!

Enger Park and Tower, Duluth

A friend at work told me about the Enger Park and Tower in Duluth Minnesota... have you ever been?  Since we already had a trip planned do Duluth for my b-day with no plans... we added that to the 'no plans' plan. It was beautiful, and very peaceful. If I lived in Duluth I would go to this beautiful spot... A LOT! Great place for a picnic, inspiration, sketching, meditating, or relaxing! I love finding new places to explore!  It's right off Skyline Parkway if you ever make it to Duluth I definitely recommend going. The view from the top of the tower is dreamy! 

Thought I'd share the beauty...

 

Bud even jumped up to catch a breeze... he's so dang cute!

 

 They even have a giant zen gong you can gong! I loved it =)

 

What new places are you discovering this summer?

I find I am most inspired and happy when I am changing it up all the time, exploring and taking mini trips to discover new things and places!
